It has been a while since the new year started. The COVID-19 new cases here in NSW and the rest of Australia are growing so rapidly. I hope the situation will still be under control here. I got the 2nd dose of vaccine with Pfizer in mid-October in 2021, so it is time to book a booster shot maybe after March. Stay safe everyone.
I wrote my new year resolution in Japanese a few days ago and uploaded it here. This year 2022 would be another year of the pandemic? I am not sure but I have a plan for myself.
For physics, I will be still working on the two papers I really would like to finish. These projects, I have spent more than 8 and 10 years. Now it is close to the ending. I have another paper, I want to finish. These three projects are very important to me. If I can finish them, I can be very confident about what I have done so far as a physicist. These three papers are also my scientific project that was granted last year. I hope I can finish these three papers so I can write a good interim report. I am grateful to have this grant, I thank Taiwanese taxpayers to support my project. I hope I can contribute some by writing good papers. Also, I think I need to keep proposing my scientific proposal whenever I have a chance. That would help me to shape my ideas and I can address that to my colleagues who would review them. Even if it fails, I will learn something. Anyways, these three papers are the most important job to finish this year.
Also, I am an instrument scientist for a neutron cold triple-axis spectrometer for more than 7 years since I started. I now understand neutron inelastic scattering better than before. I believe I have learnt so much but I will learn more in the future. Now, I am an expert on this instrument and its techniques. However, I am not done, I would like to do more and be more productive in creating more scientific papers and knowledge. One way is to continue my own research. Another way, I will try to work with my users in many scientific fields where the cold neutron triple-axis spectrometer can cover. Finally, by 2021, I started feeling I am creating research groups of my own as well. Each group has its own scientific projects, which from protein, thermoelectric material to skyrmion. I am going to be 40 this year and now I am excited to work on these at this stage of my career. I feel I am making these groups from zero bases. That has been fun. I am now confident that we can do many things. I really would like to try it.
I am now reading and listening to Nudge: The final edition by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein. I like their ideas for this book. I have known this book but I didn’t read it carefully. I have so much to learn from this book. It is important to architect our choices sometimes by using the knowledge of behavioural economists. So much to learn, hope I can summarize the book soon here.
This year, I would like to improve my English proficiency. A few days ago, I finished reading the book about learning a foreign language especially English. The author says, in the end, the precise understanding of grammar and building better vocabulary matter if you want to have a great command of the foreign language. So I have to keep improving even though the improvement that I can feel is tiny. I got many ideas to try from the book, so I will try. My final goal in English is to enjoy reading books because I love reading. If I can enjoy reading any English books I pick up, that would be great. To reach that level, I just need my continuous effort to improve. But I can do this.
Another goal of this year is to improve the quality of this blog. I have learnt people are reading my Australian share analysis in English and book reviews in Japanese. For the Chinese language, I don’t have any popular blog posts but I will come up with one. But writing these are great fun and useful for me to learn better. So I will keep writing it. Hope some of you can give me comments on how do I improve my writing.
Thank you very much! Let’s enjoy 2022 together.
