A good sense of goals, a smart strategy, and a gut to execute.

So Tuesday is gone now. Today, I have read the manuscript from collaborators. It was good to read. I gave a few comments on the manuscript. I should have done more but I think I have done at least I needed to today. So the next goal is to summarize some of the experimental data for the presentation I have in the next few months. I have many presentations in the coming few months, I should do it one by one otherwise I will be overwhelmed. Also, I need to finish two papers by the end of October. So I will be ready to get back to the office after the second dose of vaccination. I hope I can get more experiment data after that. Anyways, I should do it one by one. Since these presentations and papers are still far from the deadlines, I am a bit too relaxed. I should make a good concentration to finish one by one much earlier than the deadline. I need a clear plan I should stick to it.

Last few days, I am thinking of words from one of the CEOs in Japan. He says a leader needs three components. They are a good sense, a smart strategy, and a gut to execute.

Firstly, one has to have a good sense of targetting the right goal. Making a good goal doesn’t have to be logically brought. So one can just say I want to achieve 10 papers a year, 100 million sales and so on. But making such goals needs to be brought by his sense. We should not bring something you can’t achieve, or you can’t imagine. Otherwise, the team does not know what to do. The goal you make should motivate your team.

Secondly, the strategy needs smartness. If the goal is right, then you can make some strategies. In this part, you can actually make it with logical thinking. To achieve the goal, you can break it into small steps. To achieve the goal maybe you need to have a smart strategy to reach it easier.

Finally, execution with the gut. This is understandable. The right goal and good strategy don’t help you until you actually do it. So to reach the goal you has to have the gut to finish it. Leadership comes by achieving goals. By achieving one by one, the team start following.

But anyways, It was good to think. I am thinking of this because I care about this recently I guess. Now I have something I want to try. I feel good now.
